Powerpuff Girls’ Reboot Coming in 2016

Yet another of the truly great ones has passed. 2016 is turning out to be a tough year for music fans. Ever since hearing ‘Fantasy’ back in junior high, i’ve liked EWF, but never more than now as the years go by. And MW said himself that he wanted their music to be an inspiration to others. To me personally, he succeeded way beyond what he may have meant. The words, the music – it all WORKS, period.
As Orlando Jones said in Drumline – ‘in the beginning, there was Earth, there was Wind, and there was Fire.’ RIP.
Maurice White, founder of Earth, Wind & Fire, dead at 74
this one is actually 3 parts – Steve Harvey hits it right on the head:

Lost one of the great ones over the weekend. So sad. Sleep well, Major Tom.
great Sean Nelson article in The Stranger:
In Death as in Life, David Bowie Remains the Master of Self-Invention

another great one has passed….RIP.
Ex-Harlem Globetrotters star Meadowlark Lemon dies
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Meadowlark Lemon, the “clown prince” of basketball’s barnstorming Harlem Globetrotters, whose blend of hook shots and humor brought joy to millions of fans around the world, has died. He was 83.
Lemon’s wife and daughter confirmed to the team that he died Sunday in Scottsdale, Ariz., Globetrotters spokesman Brett Meister said Monday. Meister did not know the cause of death.
Though skilled enough to play professionally, Lemon instead wanted to entertain, his dream of playing for the Globetrotters hatched after watching a newsreel of the all-black team at a cinema house when he was 11.
Lemon ended up becoming arguably its most popular player, a showman known as much for his confetti-in-the-water-bucket routine and slapstick comedy as his half-court hook shots and no-look, behind-the-back passes.

Went over to Boise this weekend, to see family and to see Heartless Bastards at the Neurolux in downtown. What a great time, and a great show!
I’ve known about HB for some time but every time they’ve come to Seattle I’ve missed them for one reason or another. They just put out a new album, and so a new tour, and we thought it would be great to head over to ID instead of seeing them finally here – well worth it, definitely a Top 10 concert for me. And definitely a band that rises above studio recordings – you really only get the ‘whole picture’ watching them live. Erika Wennerstrom has such a great (and unique) voice – the only singer I can think of remotely similar is Chrissie Hynde – who is weirdly enough, also from Ohio, where the HB’s got their start. The musicians are all very, very good, the drummer in particular puts in all sorts of fills and extra stuff you’d not expect from straight-ahead rock music like this but i’m sure not complainin!
Here’s a bunch of their music on YouTube, including apparently a video from their 2010 Boise visit….
we also got to spend time with my sister’s family and an unexpected treat to see another cousin who happened to be in town for a few days too – great stuff!
until we hopefully get back over there to ski this winter….
