Conan O’Brien can’t stop!
Saw this last night on DVD. Pretty cool. Not as focused on the live show’s contents/comedy (as I originally assumed) but more about his state of mind both post Leno-debacle, putting together this crazy nationwide live tour with the band, and surviving both. I also really identified with his comments about vacillating between moving ahead vs. lapsing into anger over his previous situation. It’s hard to let go, that’s for sure. As for Leno, I think Hitler himself said it best….:)
Thinking back to Conan’s public statements at the time, he really took the high road, even when Leno and NBC were at their douchiest. And what’s also appropo since is how Leno’s ratings still suck and NBC is sucking in the ratings generally – ha! Karma is real, bitches! At one point 60 Minutes shows up to interview him – you can *bet* CBS was gloating over airing NBC’s dirty laundry, to be sure.
It would have been cool to interact with more people in and around this live touring show – Andy is more peripheral here than I thought he’d be, given his role past and present with Conan – but no worries. And given the sad, vast proliferation of so-called ‘reality TV’ these days – ultimately those shows serve to cheapen (at least a little) documentaries like this in my mind. You can’t really take some of the things that happen as seriously as you otherwise might have, given that you see crap like Jersey Shore aping similar melodrama (thankfully though with that show, however, Beavis and Butt-Head are on the case).
If you are a Conan fan, definitely worth checking out. They don’t show it here but I bet Jeff (his producer) got a royal a**-kicking after the Bonaroo situation…..
